1. Respect for all participants and the game itself is a fundamental requirement. Players must always act in good faith and kindness throughout all aspects of the game.
- Since we can’t read body language during the virtual event, the tone of your voice and how your message is worded are even more important than ever.
2. Players who are invited to participate must attend at least one of our Pre-Game Sessions. During these sessions, we’ll make sure all players are familiar with the rules, assist with technical setup, review the Discord Bot commands needed to play, or answer any questions that participants may have.
3. Due to the limitations of online LARPing, we will be enforcing a limit of 45 total players. Additionally, there will be a limit on how many players can be in each scene. Even if your character has the ability to forcibly enter a closed scene, the player cap will override your power. Please understand and let us know in advance and we will try to accommodate your story plans.
4. We’ll be using Discord for text and voice chats. Instead of sitting around a table, the scene will take place in both a text and voice channel with the same name. The voice channel will largely be used by the GMs to run the scene and for players to take their actions. We ask that any side conversations take place in the text channel for the scene.
- While you will have access to see text channels for rooms or places you aren’t currently in, we ask that you please refrain from all meta-gaming as it ruins the experience for other players.
5. Be mindful of your microphone. If your environment has unavoidable noise, please use push-to-talk or mute yourself. Additionally, if you are playing with other players in your living space, separate from each other to minimize the chance of echo. If a player is not minding their own mute button and it becomes disruptive the GMs may mute you.
6. The GMs (Game Masters) have the sole power to remove a player from a scene, session, the game, or future AnimeNEXT LARPs as a whole. Our Team doesn’t use this power lightly and only uses this as a last resort when players have become disruptive and have ignored any prior warnings they may have received. If you are removed from a scene please feel free to reach out to a GM, but we ask that you do not attempt to rejoin after being removed.
6. If there is a conflict between players or you need to report a player for any reason you can contact a GM privately. If your concern is with a GM of Staff Member you can either reach out to the LARP Department head via email at larp@animenext.org or submit a feedback form here.
7. Our Team uses a modified version of the rock, paper, scissor conflict resolution, and the Nexus LARP System. You can view the full Nexus LARP Rules in the PDF attached at the bottom of this help article.
- TL;DR: Our GMs will create a character sheet if one doesn't exist and we’ve made some slight tweaks to allow for online play.
8. When your character enters a room/place, please note in the chat that your character has appeared and when they leave so that everyone knows and it doesn’t disrupt the flow of conversation. If your character is trying to do something sneaky, please note that in the text channel as well. If a GM is present, they’ll bring you into the scene when it fits. If there is no GM, please wait for a pause in the conversation before interrupting.
- Just because you don’t see something on the list doesn’t mean it isn’t there - So long as it exists in the setting and isn’t a restricted area, we can add one in for you to LARP in.
9. Players are required to mark off any ammo, energy, hit points, or other limited skills
10. Your nickname must display your character name and your first name and last initial in the following format: <Character Name> (Your Name)
- IE: Ash Ketchum (Gamna B.)
11. Any PvP (player-versus-player) must be pre-negotiated out-of-character. While this may not be the traditional system, with converting to online play it is of the highest priority to ensure each player is having a positive game experience.
12. During the LARP, our plot will advance in different phases over the duration of the convention weekend, coming to a close on Sunday. As the players progress throughout the plot more background and story information will be revealed. Each separate phase has a total playtime of approximately four hours. It is not required to participate in all the separate phases of each day, however, we do encourage you to play till you can’t play anymore. 😉
13. Please make sure to reach out to our GMs with any questions regarding any technical problems prior to the game starting. Once the LARP starts our Team will only have very limited availability to troubleshoot and technical issues outside of gameplay.
By registering for the AnimeNEXT LARP either via the pre-registration form or at any other point, you acknowledge and accept the rules and regulations listed above and in other documentation in the LARP section. The AnimeNEXT LARP Team may adjust these rules at any point without prior notice. Additionally, any persons in violation of these rules will be removed from the game.
