New Jersey State law requires that all artists & dealers selling taxable goods charge New Jersey sales tax separate from the amount of the sale. Vendors are required to be registered with the New Jersey Division of Revenue and Enterprise Services either before or after the convention and remit the collected sales tax to the State of New Jersey. All vendors must provide AnimeNEXT with a photocopy of their NJ Certificate of Authority for Sales Tax (Form CA-1). Failure to do so will result in ejection from the convention and/or a 1-year ban for future conventions.
New Jersey is a member of the Streamlined Sales Tax Project. Their website is: https://www.streamlinedsalestax.org/for-businesses/sales-tax-registration-sstrs
Please note that you can register to collect sales tax in any or all of the 24 member states using the SST Registration System. While using the SST Registration System is free of charge, each state you register in reserves the right to charge you filing fees.
If you wish to register your business directly with the State of New Jersey, you can do so online using NJ-REG: https://www.njportal.com/DOR/BusinessRegistration/Home/FirstStep
New Jersey vendors may use a photocopy of their current Certificate of Authority for Sales Tax and need not apply for an additional license.
